1. Who you're agreeing with
Tasks & Treasures (the website at tasksandtreasures.com and the app it hosts; together, "the service") is operated by Martin Hauck, sole proprietor, based in Ontario, Canada ("we", "us"). You can reach us at martin.hauck@gmail.com.
2. What the service is
Tasks & Treasures is a family chore and reward board that runs in a web browser, designed for a shared tablet in your home. It is currently in early access, which means it's actively being built and improved. More on what that implies in section 5.
3. Your account
Accounts are created through our sign-up provider, Outseta. To hold an account you must be an adult (the age of majority where you live). You agree to give accurate information at sign-up and to keep your login to yourself. The board itself is designed to be used by your whole family (kids included) under your account and your supervision; what your household does with it is your responsibility.
4. Acceptable use
Use the service for what it's for: running your family's tasks and rewards. Don't attempt to break, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the service or other people's accounts; don't use it for anything unlawful; and don't resell or misrepresent it as your own product. That's the whole list, and none of it should be hard.
5. Early access, honestly
Early access means the service is real and works (my own family uses it daily) but it's evolving. Features may change, be added, or be removed. Things may occasionally break. We don't promise uninterrupted availability. Protect yourself the same way we do: use the built-in CSV export to keep copies of your tasks and treasures setup. We'll treat your patience during early access as the gift it is.
6. Your content and data
Your family's data (names, photos, tasks, progress) belongs to you, and it lives on your own device rather than our servers (see the privacy policy for exactly how that works). We claim no ownership of any of it. Because it lives on your device, backing it up (via the app's nightly on-device backup and your own CSV exports) is a shared job: the app does its part locally, and keeping copies beyond the device is yours.
7. Our stuff
The Tasks & Treasures software, design, name and branding are ours. You get a personal, non-transferable right to use the service for your household while you have an account. If you send feedback or ideas (please do), you agree we can use them to improve the service without owing you compensation, though credit and gratitude are freely given.
8. Not professional advice
Nothing on this site (including the Tasks & Treasures for ADHD article) is medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice. It's a parent's honest synthesis of research and experience. Decisions about your child's or your own health belong with you and your doctor.
9. No warranties
The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. In plain terms: we work hard to make it good and reliable, and we don't legally guarantee perfection.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by the laws of Ontario and Canada, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including lost data, lost profits, or arguments about whose turn it was to feed the fish. Where liability can't be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim, or CAD $50. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
11. Ending things
You can stop using the service and ask us to delete your account at any time (see the privacy policy). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where reasonable. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (like 6, 7, 9 and 10) do.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there. Disputes belong to the courts of Ontario, though we'd genuinely rather solve any problem over email first.
13. Changes to these terms
If these terms change materially, the effective date above changes and account holders will be notified by email before the changes take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
14. Contact
Questions about these terms: martin.hauck@gmail.com, or the contact page.
